Back in the USoA

I'm back state side in DC, finishing up a few things with my house.  Closing is on June 7th, at which point I will be totally free of this town.  Sad, a bit, but very very good for the soul.

I'll write soon about St. Michel, D-Day (I was on KOA radio!), and the wonderful people I met in Normandy.

Ellington's on Eighth

The sound of Jazz came wafting out the door and gently called my attention away from this beautiful Washington day. I'm on their back porch drinking a Tusker Lager from Kenya Breweries Ltd. and composing this post. Staring at the elephant on the Tusker's label and fully satisfied after a heavenly brunch at Georgia Brown's, winner of Washington's best brunch for 2003, 04, and 06, I'm looking forward to seeing my friend Melissa from the Senate. She's penciling me in between dropping her mom off at National Airport and a meeting in Patomic. She's the shit now for a high profile election in Maryland. I'm going to Europe for a month. I think I win.

Am I crazy? YES.

The tagline for this site says it all: No itinerary, no schedule, just me and whoever I meet along the way.

Well, that's not entirely true.  I do sort of have an itinerary.  I want to see everything.  Everything.  I want to go to Zanzibar, dive the Great Barrier Reef, see the Taj Mahal, stand in awe of those gigantic statues on Easter Island, revel in the beauty of Palau, become a wine snob in Burgundy, ride the trans-Siberian railroad to Vladivostok, and sail.  I want to sail a LOT.

Who knows if I'll even do half of that stuff, but I have a dream.  I may break a leg, get eaten by a shark, or just decide that it's time to go home.  But this vague plan does exist, and when I set my mind to doing something it usually gets done.
